Region X: Constantly Changing Telehealth

Monday, June 14, 2021
Written by: Alexcia DeVasquez, Data & Information Specialist, NWRPCA

This year, we have seen many changes in Region X health centers and health centers across the country.

You may remember last year, we reported about Region X Telehealth services about the previous year (2018 UDS data). This year, we have also seen an increase of telehealth usage via the HRSA COVID reporting that our region has been participating in. We went from 47% of Region X Health Centers utilizing telehealth services, to nearly 100%. In NWRPCA's Region X 2020 Health Center Census (RXHCC), we asked members to let us know what percent of total encounters were utilizing telehealth before March 1, 2020 (the onset of COVID) and after September 2020.

In our RXHCC, we survey the Federally Qualified Health Centers in Region X about their health center activities to better understand what is happening in our region. We heard from 50% of all four of our states, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

When asked who was currently using telehealth, we had 52 health centers respond, 30% saying that they are utilizing telehealth for services other than clinical and Behavioral Health Services.

When we asked our health centers what kinds of services they were offering, we saw that dental, health education, and nutrition were the top three services that health centers used telehealth for.
